| Schwerpunkte: | Manta rays are without a doubt one of the most charismatic creatures of our oceans and the dream encounter of every diver! However, the life of these animals has only been studied for a couple of decades, leaving much to be discovered about the biology of these giants. Through this presentation, the audience will be introduced to the mysterious life of a manta ray and learn curious and fascinating aspects about their biology. This talk will address questions such as how manta rays evolved, what they eat, how they reproduce, and where they can be found. Part of the presentation will also be dedicated to highlighting the threats these animals face, including the direct fishing industry in some parts of the world and the unsustainable tourism in others. Finally, we will introduce the Manta Trust, an NGO dedicated to the research and conservation of these animals, highlighting the efforts made to improve manta ray protection and the current conservation status of these species. Most importantly, we will discuss what each individual can do, as a diver, to help ensure the long-term survival of manta rays globally. |
